DANCE EXPLORATION - (3 & 4 yrs) 45 minutes - Full Session - This creative movement class focuses on developing basic motor skills, independence, and coordination while learning about music and dance through imagination and dance games. The class will give the students the basics of their dance training which can be used in any discipline. All our Dance Exploration classes participate in our year end recital.
BALLET- ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE INTERNATIONAL SYLLABUS
PRE-PRIMARY & PRIMARY BALLET - (5 & 6 yrs) 1 hour - Full Session - The Pre-Ballet Program is designed to give children the technical skills and strength needed in more structured dance classes setting. Using ballet technique, students develop stance, posture, flexibility, strength, and discipline required for all dance forms. All Pre-Ballet classes participate in our year end recital.
CLASSICAL BALLET - (7 & up) 1 hour - Full Session - Ballet is a classical art form that develops poise, flexibility, strength, discipline, and self confidence. The technique training learned in the Ballet classes encourages precision and agility in all dance forms. At DanceWorks, our dancers train in the Royal Academy of Dance International Syllabus. We are proud to offer RAD ballet exams annually for those students invited by their instructor in Primary and up. (For students to be considered for the RAD ballet exam, students must be registered in a minimum of two ballet classes per week of the same level.) All ballet classes participate in our year end recital.
PRE-POINTE/POINTE - (age 12 and up) 1/2 hour - Full Session - Pointe is a specialized technique for female ballerinas where they dance on the very tips of their toes using special pointe shoes. This class demands a specific physical strength and flexibility. It is available to those who are age 12 and older, who train in ballet twice a week or more, and have been invited by their instructor based on their technique and strength.
JAZZ AND TAP - A.D.A.P.T SYLLABUS
JAZZ - (5 yrs and up) 1 hour - Full Session - Jazz is a powerful and dynamic dance discipline which develops coordination and flexibility. Students will learn technique as well as dance combinations in a fast-paced and fun environment. DanceWorks is proud to offer exams in the ADAPT syllabus for those invited by their instructor in Jazz Junior 1 and up. All Jazz classes participate in our year end recital.
TAP - (7 yrs and up) 1 hour - Full Session - Students will learn technique as well as dance combinations in the classic tap technique enjoyable environment. Students will learn the rhythms, motor skills, and concentration skills needed for the discipline. DanceWorks is proud to offer exams in the ADAPT syllabus for those invited by their instructor in Tap Junior 1 and up. All Tap classes participate in our year end recital.
Other Dance
LYRICAL - (Child / Teen & Adult) 1 Hour - Full Season - This class develops your technique, musicality, and soul by mixing ballet, jazz, ethnic, and modern styles to create dance deep and rich with flavour. Danced to modern music, the class uses smooth moving techniques that emphasize the lyrics. All lyrical classes participate in our year end recital.
HIP HOP - (7 & up) 1 Hour - Full Season - Learn the newest dance trends, like the dancing you see in popular T.V. shows like "So You Think You Can Dance". This class is fast-paced and features techniques such as locking and popping. All hip hop classes participate in our year end recital.
STREET DANCE - (7 & up) 1 Hour - Full Season -Street dance is similar to hip hop but focuses more on elements as robotic, breakdance, six step, stalls, and more. It is a hard hitting class with lots of rhythmic movement to exciting music. All street classes participate in our year end recital.
CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP - (Teen / Adult) 1 Hour - Full Season - Contemporary classes designed to utilize the discipline of dance particularly towards worship. Students will work towards presenting choreographed worship dance for youth or church ministry. The class will connect the movement of dance with the heart of worship. All Contemporary worship classes will participate in our year end recital.
CELTIC (Child/Pre-Teen) 1 hour - Full Session - Traditional Irish/Celtic dancing made popular by Riverdance or Lord of the Dance. Celtic dance focuses on keeping the upper body solid and strong while the feet do their magic. This dance style develops coordination and concentration while learning traditional reels combinations. All Celtic classes participate in our year end recital.
Music & Theatre
MUSICAL THEATRE - (9 yrs and up) 1 Hour - Full Season - Musical Theatre combines the triple threat of dancing, singing, and acting into a class designed to introduce the student to the world of musicals. The class will develop vocal skills as well as learn basic choreography, using excerpts from various musicals for rehearsal and performance. It is strongly recommended that musical theatre students take a dance technique class in addition to their musical theatre class. All Musical Theatre classes will participate in our year end recital.
XPLOR DRAMA - 1 hour - Full Session - Discover acting in a safe and dynamic environment filled with theatre games and performance rehearsals. Students study acting technique, character development, improv, stage movement, memorization, stagecraft, and more. Classes also have opportunity to be involved with productions throughout the season such as: Fall Manitou Production, Fall Nutcracker performance, Spring Productions in Manitou & Morden, and Spring recitals.
PERFORMANCE - Opportunity for students to take specialized actor's coaching (particularly with our Fall Studio Production & Recital in mind) Emphasis given on auditioning, character preparation, performance etiquette, and stage confidence.
ADULT CLASSES
BALLROOM - 1 hour - 5 or 10 Week Sessions - Discover the basics of couples dance in a fun and non-threatening environment. Learn rhythm, stance, leading, and basic steps and turns. Each session will focus on 2 basic dances such as Foxtrot, Waltz, Salsa, Swing, Tango, etc.
BALLROOM PRIVATES - Do you have a special function or event coming up? Wedding, Anniversary, Grad? You can book private Ballroom sessions to learn the basics, or to build on your favorite dance. Call the office for info or booking.
BODY SCULPTING - 1 hour - 10 Week Session - This low-impact fitness class incorporates Pilates, Yoga, and Stability Ball towards an overall stetch and conditioning of the body.
CHARACTER-FREE MOVEMENT 1 hour - 10 Week Session - Learn how to dance a story as Ballet Instructor, Marilee Schroeder, uses graceful Free Movement with Hungarian Character dance.
CELTIC 1 hour - 10 Week Session - Traditional Irish/Celtic dancing made popular by Riverdance or Lord of the Dance. CONDITIONING - 1 Hour - This class is formatted to include a variety of conditioning styles and techniques; from strength and flexibility training to stability ball workout, floor barre, New York Ballet and everything in between. This class will constantly be evolving and progressing throughout the year as your fitness, strength, flexibility, and balance increase. Make the commitment to take care of your body and be the best you can be!
ZUMBA 1 hour - 10 Week Session - A high impact class described as Latin aerobics, Zumba involves the whole body in movement working on core muscles, learning fluidity, and getting the heart rate up. It is an excellent and unique way to work out.

LATIN DANCE WORKOUT - (Ladies Only) 1 hour - 10 Week Session - Come out and move to the beat of a Latin drum!! A fun and exhilarating workout for ladies only set to great Latin beats. You will learn to mambo, merenge, salsa, cha cha, and much much more. Have some fun on Girls Night Out!
STOTT PILATES - 1 hour - 10 Week Session - A form of non-impact body conditioning done on a mat or specialized Pilates equipment that is designed to balance strength with flexibility. The emphasis is on "core stability" through the abdominals and back, focusing on proper body mechanics and elongating the muscles rather than bulking them up. DanceWorks teaches the STOTT PILATES Method of Exercise and is a recognized certified STOTT PILATES Studio.
YOGA - 1 Hour - 10 Week Session - Bring your mind and body together by exploring a traditional form of Yoga drawing from many styles, incorporating breath work, stretching, alignment, asana(postures), and relaxation for overall well-being - increasing flexibility and strength, improving posture.
ADVANCED CLASSES/OPPORTUNITIES
TEACHER TRAINING - Opportunity for aspiring teachers in dance and drama to study the techniques of teaching in the arts. Students will discover class design & prep, class structure, teaching effectiveness, coaching students, refining skills, leading disciplined classes and more. Students must be a part of the Teacher Training Program.
THEATRE / DANCE INTERNSHIPS - (College Students Only) Semester or Yearly Session - Interested in pursuing a year of theatre / dance / production. Experience the world of arts particularly in a rural setting - option for college course credit available.
